"Been Hangin' Around This Town..."

I have to say that I really, really love Sanford. All of the people I've met here are really nice and it's just a really cute town! Yesterday I went and took a drug test for my new job (at Target) over in Longwood...the facility was a little hard to find because it didn't come up on the GPS...and then the way back was interesting because it didn't take me anywhere close to the way I came! I got to see a lot of the surrounding towns yesterday!! After I did the drug test - hope I passed :) - I went home and put the pictures that I took for the photo contest the other day at the pottery studio and the art gallery on my memory card so I could print them and give them to the owners as a thank you for helping me. Let me just pause here for a second and say how INCREDIBLY sad I am that I haven't been able to find a place that does quality printing down here yet. I ended up going to Kinko's and getting the pictures printed...but they looked pretty bad (in my opinion) since the only option for the photo paper was glossy finish...and I can't stand glossy finish!!!! Needless to say, I really missed Richmond Camera yesterday and I think I'm probably going to have to start doing online orders with them again.

After leaving the pottery studio, I went for a walk around the lake and ended up at the national headquarters for New Tribes Mission [www.ntm.org] - don't be surprised if the link doesn't work...I have yet to figure out HOW to make links work on here...and it's kind of annoying. They're building is the old Mayfair Hotel and it's a BEAUTIFUL structure! Back when it was a hotel, Al Capone stayed there...and it was also owned by the Giants when they would come down for spring training...in the 1970's it was acquired by NTM and has been their headquarters ever since. Anyway, the people I met at NTM were super nice and offered to give me a tour of the facility and tell me more about what they do. Basically, they're a group of Christian missionaries that bring the message of the gospel to tribal communities all over the world. You'll never guess what their training facility is called....yep, that's right, the MTC! How funny is that! I was able to talk with them about being a member of the Church and point out some common ground that we share as Christians. It was a really great experience!

This is a picture/painting (probably a painting) that I found on the internet of the NTM Headquarters back when it was the hotel...the copyright on the picture says 1944...how I would have loved to have seen this place back then! It's just beautiful! I'll post some of the pictures of it soon that I took yesterday.

When I left the hotel, I walked back to my car and met a man on the way back who was waiting for his wife to get out of work...I talked to him for a little while and eventually gave him one of my business cards in hopes that he'll call me to have me take their family pictures. (Fingers crossed!) On the walk back to my car I also did something I've never done before...I bought an ice cream from an ice cream truck that was parked near the playground at the lake! Fun!! :)

Last night, I went to Orlando to meet a member of the church that lives in Hunter's Creek...the drive down was fine but then on the drive back my GPS kinda went crazy and it took me FOREVER to figure out where I was going! Annoying! I definitely don't think I'll be driving from Orlando at night any time soon. We went to dinner at a great place called Urban Hibachi. The food was awesome and we had a good time talking and getting to know each other!

Today (Saturday) we're going to New Smyrna beach with Juan and Wanda (Amanda works with Wanda) and I'm super excited about it!!

Will write more later...getting ready to go!
